Entry Level Firefighter Paramedic

Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue is currently creating an eligibility list for future openings for entry level Firefighter Paramedic. This eligible list is valid for up to 24 months.


We are currently planning for a Summer 2025 academy.
Application Requirements
Candidates must have completed and passed:
· FireTEAM test administered by National Testing Network by the application submission date dated 12 months from the close date of this posting (by March 11, 2025).


· Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) within the accepted date range of September 13, 2023, to March 11, 2025. A CPAT will be accepted from any organization authorized and licensed by the IAFF and IAFC.


We understand for some candidates the cost of the CPAT can be a burden. We partner with National Testing Network to provide a fee waiver program for those who cannot afford the CPAT testing fee. There are a limited number of waivers available for those who qualify. The CPAT waiver request form with instructions is available here.

Salary Information
The starting monthly for this position is $6,224.87 per month as of July 1, 2025.
Paramedic premium - Paramedic hourly - 12% (post academy)

Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes


College: Not required


Additional education: In addition to a high school diploma or equivalent, post-high school education or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.


Prior Experience: None required


Necessary Certifications: Paramedic license or National Registry certification as a paramedic at time of application. Must possess State of Oregon Paramedic license by date of employment as a firefighter paramedic.


Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers: All non-expunged convictions must be disclosed, and are reviewed in relation to number, severity, date, and other relevant circumstances. Candidates must not have any criminal convictions that would prevent certifications from the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standard and the Oregon Health Authority.


Driving Disqualifiers: Must possess a current, valid driver's license that is recognized by the state of Oregon and maintain a driving record insurable by the District's insurer in order to drive a District vehicle.


Additional Disqualifiers: Must meet National Fire Protection (NFPA) standards for health and fitness. Any offer of employment will be contingent upon passing a fit-for-duty physical, drug screen and psychological evaluation.
