Job Description

Position Summary:

The Mortgage Loan Originator is responsible for generating new mortgage business and building strong relationships with borrowers, referral partners, and community stakeholders. This role involves guiding potential borrowers through the mortgage application process, assessing creditworthiness, and ensuring compliance with underwriting standards and regulatory requirements. This role is ideal for a proactive, customer-focused professional with a passion for helping individuals achieve their homeownership goals and a drive to contribute to the bank’s success through effective mortgage loan origination. The Mortgage Loan Originator plays a vital role in driving growth for the bank’s mortgage portfolio while delivering exceptional customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

Business Development & Relationship Management

  • Actively prospect and generate new mortgage leads through networking, referrals, and community outreach.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with real estate agents, builders, financial advisors, and other referral sources.
  • Represent the bank at community events and industry forums to promote the bank’s mortgage products and services.

Loan Origination & Underwriting Support

  • Assist borrowers in completing mortgage applications, gathering necessary documentation, and preparing for underwriting.
  • Conduct preliminary credit analysis to assess borrower eligibility and determine appropriate loan products.
  • Work closely with underwriting and processing teams to ensure smooth and timely loan closings.

Customer Service & Consultation

  • Provide clear guidance and education to borrowers regarding mortgage products, interest rates, terms, and the application process.
  • Address borrower inquiries and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure that borrowers understand their mortgage options and assist them in making informed financial decisions.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure all loan origination activities comply with federal, state, and local regulations as well as the bank’s internal policies.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate records of all mortgage applications, communications, and transactions.
  • Stay current on market trends, regulatory changes, and competitive offerings to provide up-to-date information to borrowers and referral partners.

 

Performance Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Meet or exceed established production goals and contribute to the overall growth of the mortgage portfolio.
  • Provide regular updates on loan origination activities, pipeline status, and market conditions to management.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve processes and enhance the customer experience.

Work Experience Qualifications:

Minimum of 2–4 years of experience in mortgage loan origination, consumer lending, or a related role in the financial services industry. Proven track record of meeting production goals and generating new business through effective relationship management. Prior experience with mortgage lending software and financial analysis tools is preferred.

· Excellent sales and negotiation skills, with a customer-centric approach.

· Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

· In-depth understanding of mortgage products, credit analysis, and underwriting processes.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with CRM and mortgage processing systems.

· Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in a regulated industry.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.

Licensing or Certification Requirements:

NMLS required.
