The Perkins AmeriCorps Program engages adults of all backgrounds and identities to serve Perkins’ students. Supervised by experienced Perkins staff, AmeriCorps members help students use assistive technology, plan careers, develop independent living skills, and become more confident in social interactions. AmeriCorps members make a profound difference in their own lives and the lives of the students they serve. The ten Perkins AmeriCorps members serve for 46 weeks in a full-time capacity (1700 hours at approximately 42-45 hours per week) in student-facing roles. Responsibilities include supporting students in expanded core curriculum activities across nine key areas such as Assistive Technology, Career Education, Compensatory Skills, Independent Living Skills, Orientation and Mobility, Recreation and Leisure, Self-Determination, Sensory Efficiency, and Social Interaction Skills. Members will prepare and deliver lessons with support from teaching staff, support student behavioral needs through de-escalation techniques including physical interventions, utilize Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite for daily tasks, navigate a 38-acre campus, adapt to daily schedule changes, and complete 1700 hours of service from September 8, 2025 to July 24, 2026. Members participate in extensive training and professional development, collaborate on campus-wide events, recruit and manage community volunteers, and share stories of impact. Requirements include US citizenship or permanent residency, minimum age 18, full vaccination for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, ability to use online collaboration tools, self-motivation, organization, and willingness to complete Safety Care training. Benefits include a taxable stipend of $1,500 bi-weekly (up to $34,500), health insurance (individual coverage), education award up to approximately $7,395, use of a Perkins laptop, access to campus training and certifications, professional development funds, and planned time off. The position requires in-person service Monday-Friday generally 8am-5pm with some potential evening and weekend commitments.
